I temporarily unplugged the power to reset the SMC, booted it up again, was able to reset PRAM, booted into Safe mode, and when it came up, uninstalled X8 and rebooted in normal mode: no problem since. I force started again and held down the cmd-opt-PR keys to reset PRAM: nothing. I forced started again and held the opt key to bring up my external bootable disc: nothing. I force started again and held down the Shift key to start in Safe Mode: nothing. I forced shutdown by holding the start button and then restarted by pressing it again: it hung with the spinning wheel of death. The next morning, the CPU wouldn’t wake up when I clicked the mouse, and with energy saving turning off the screen, I couldn’t even see if there were any tell tails as to why it crashed on the screen: pressing the startup button to wake the machine up did nothing.

It is, however, a problem in general with VB and Intego should have fixed it long ago.Ī few weeks ago, I purchased an upgrade to VB/NB X8 and installed in on my MacPro and set it up to do a complete scan of the 500 GB Disk overnight. With 24 GB of RAM, this wasn’t a problem. Now, VB has always been a memory and CPU hog because it spawns multiple processes to scan files, and until I upgraded RAM from 8 GB to 24 GB, I used to go into Activity Monitor and Kill five or six of the spawned processes every time things got sluggish.
